The Game:
This was a Cosmic Horror themed First Person horror game created for a GameJam in The University Of Plymouth. The aim of this game is to navigate through the S.S.Laughterhouse while being hunted by a revenge-driven spirit of a cow called the Amooser. Once this enemy catches you, it's lights out. You got to try again! The player must find a power cell hidden in one of the many randomly generated spots around the map, and navigate claustrophobia inducing hallways to put it in a power bank, power the ship, and exit to win.
How it came about:
This was a super interesting project. Myself and two of my course mates decided it would be fun to do together, but I don't think any of us quite realised just how well we would work together in order to make this. It was already off to a.. challenging start when we didn't actually know the two week GameJam had officially begun, almost a week into it! So this left one week to build the level, texture it, create an enemy, create the player, create a basic AI, create randomised spots for a power cell to spawn, and create a win condition, complete with User Interfaces! This was all while studying, and programming projects for our final year of university!
So, we knew we were going to be in for a challenge, but we stuck with it! After getting the level built and textured there was only one day left to build everything else. So, me and my course mates began working at around 12 - 1pm 24hours before deadline..
After spending 16 hours coding, programming, mapping textures and building a rudimentary AI, it was complete! Impending Bacon was a huge success to all the people that played it during the Game Jam, and we even managed to frighten a few people! And that is the highest reward anyone can ask for when developing a horror game. We received a lot of information on what people liked, and what they would like to see in the future, as well as a bunch of feedback regarding controls, bugs and mechanics. This is something we hope to continue developing in the future, as it's being hosted on itch.io:
